African Americans have served proudly in every great American war. These fighting men represented the first Black professional soldiers in a peacetime army. The recruits came from varied backgrounds including former slaves and veterans from service in the Civil War.
Our Mission
Buffalo Soldiers National Museum (BSNM), is dedicated to exploring and displaying the stories and contributions of African Americans in the military by way of performing and visual arts, educational programming, and exhibitions.
Military Inspired Art, M.I.A.
To pay homage to bravery, heroism and artistry in the military, our annual Military Inspired Art “MIA” exhibition creates an atmosphere where veterans and active-duty men and women can showcase their talents off the battlefield along with other modern and contemporary artists who the military may have influenced. In its 4th year, the exhibition is available online and in person.
